Teacher-turned-designer Kara Laricks was crowned Season 1 winner of NBC’s Fashion Star. In addition to being named winner, Laricks was also awarded a $6 million commission to create 3 exclusive capsule collections for Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M.

On Wednesday, Kara unveiled her collection for H&M at the Swedish retailer’s flagship store in New York City. Laricks mentioned that if she had her way, the collection would’ve been done in black and white (my favorite pairing!), but H&M loves color! She also stated that she wanted her garments to be a bit androgynous and this manifests itself in the form of her signature plus-tie collars.

There’s no doubt that Kara Laricks is a talented designer with a very unique perspective. I’m a fan and can’t wait to see what she does for the two remaining capsule collections! Check out pics below and shop Kara Laricks for H&M here.

*Kara is modeling pieces from the collection as well.

  1. I have to admit that not watching Fashion Star was a major fail. However, the styles by the winner are both wearable and fashion Star forward.

I love that she is a teacher turned designer…it is a true testament that anything is possible!
